6 healthy foods to eat when cravings strike
Craving unhealthy food is normal and sometimes can be hard to shake...
But when you do get those cravings, try any of these 6 alternatives and you may even surprise yourself at how healthy and indulgent they are.
Popcorn is a great alternative to crisps, with half the calories and lot higher in fibre it's an easy swap. If you're prone to snacking on a packet of crips at lunchtime, check out Metcalfe's skinny popcorn which tastes just as good!
2. Sweet potato chips
Sometimes there's nothing that beats a bowl of oven chips, but if you're trying to be good this isn't the healthiest choice. Try sweet potato chips, cut up a sweet potato, season and stick them in the oven, it's as easy as that.
If you're craving a cookie or something sweet, try having some dates. Dates will satisfy your sweet tooth whilst giving you a good dose of healthy fats, protein and antioxidants, perfect.
4. Frozen bananas
Who knew blending frozen bananas together could make ice cream, healthy ice cream! Make this extra tasty by adding a few strawberries and dark chocolate chips to top it off.
5. Peanut butter and fruit
Want an alternative for crisps and dip, try fruit and peanut butter. Fruit such as apple dipped in 100% peanut butter is not only delicious but is the perfect way to satisfy a sweet and crunchy craving - just watch your portion sizes, it's addictive!
6. Homemade smoothie
Especially as the weather starts to get warmer, milkshakes can be tempting, but resist and make your own smoothie instead. Mix up your favourite fruit and veg to make the perfect refreshing dessert packed full of vitamins.
