Lead the Change: Become a Sustainability Ambassador
Are you passionate about environmental sustainability? Would you like to play a central role in getting your Hall of Residence to reduce its impact on the planet this year? We’re looking for volunteers to become Sustainability Ambassadors, who can act as a powerful voice for sustainable living in University Halls.
What does being a Sustainability Ambassador involve?
You’ll be invited to attend informal monthly training sessions from the University of London’s Reduce the Juice team. We’ll give you training on effective strategies for encouraging behaviour change, helping you to influence others to make simple but important lifestyle changes for the good of the planet. You can then support the Reduce the Juice team in our student engagements throughout the year when we’ll come into Halls of Residence and use activities and conversation to encourage students to reduce waste, save energy and save water. The training sessions will also cover influencing decision-makers to make sustainability a priority, and how to plan and evaluate sustainability projects.
As a Sustainability Ambassador, you’ll also have the opportunity to support the Resident Advisors in planning and running monthly events on a variety of themes, such as making recycled Halloween costumes! It’s a great opportunity to get creative, gain experience in event and project management, and tackle the issues that matter to you, from environmentally-friendly food to active travel, sustainable fashion, or anything else you’re passionate about.
We’ll also ask you to share your ideas about how sustainability could be improved in your Hall of Residence, and we’ll support you in making these ideas a reality.
What’s in it for me?
Becoming a Sustainability Ambassador will allow you to meet like-minded people, give back to your student community, do something pro-active for the planet, and have a lot of fun along the way! Completing our free training programme and getting involved in running events and projects will also give you valuable skills and experience that will look fantastic on your CV. No matter what career you choose to pursue in the future, experience in Environmental Sustainability will help you stand out from the crowd, as Sustainable Development becomes more and more of a priority worldwide.
I’m in! What do I need to do next?
Our first training session is taking place on Thursday 17th October in Garden Halls, Meeting Room 3B, from 18:30 – 20:00. Come along to find out more, and get started with brainstorming ideas and having discussions about how you can support Sustainability this year. Email email@example.com to confirm your attendance, or just drop in!
