New year, new you?

Yes, we have heard it all before BUT a new year most definitely gives you a fresh start...

New Year's resolutions can be hard to stick to, especially once those January blues start to kick in, but you need to try and stay focused!

With these realistic resolutions, you've got a good chance of sticking to them:

1. Being fit, fun and fabulous

You might struggle to motivate yourself but by setting yourself (realistic) targets, you will achieve something within the time frame you've set yourself. You could join a gym, start the Couch to 5k programme or start playing sport with some friends. You need to enjoy it though, otherwise, you'll ditch it after 3 days.

2. Deleting your social media accounts

Ok, you might find that deleting them altogether is a bit dramatic but you could start by cutting back or just deleting your apps for a while. If you ever find yourself obsessing over social media at all, then is the time to put your phone down! All you iPhone users may have noticed 'Screen Time' - have a look at that and see how much time you're wasting online.

3. Health kickin' into 2019

Takeaways and ready meals might make life easier but they'll also make a dent in your bank balance AND they aren't healthy either. After indulging over Christmas, it's all about getting back to the healthiest version of yourself so start by adding more veggies to your meals and trying 'fakeaways' on the weekends.

4. Being the Good Samaritan

We're all guilty of being a bit selfish from time to time but now is the perfect opportunity to turn that around; by volunteering! Not only will you be helping others and contributing to a good cause but it'll look great on your CV too. Having volunteering experience on your CV is likely to make you stand out amongst other applicants.

5. Giving up the booze

After Christmas, you might be sick of all the booze and partying so mocktails, here you come! Dry January will soon become your best friend - you'll save money, feel healthier and sleep better. Cutting alcohol from your lifestyle will help you prepare for your January exams/deadlines and leave you with a much more positive outlook on life. 

6. Focusing on YOU

If you love writing and being creative, now is the time to focus on this by creating a YouTube channel or blog. You could even blog with us! Consider creating an Instagram page all about your interests with the aim of becoming a full-time influencer after or during your time at university. Creating content can connect you with others who have similar interests to you and it's a great thing to show to future employers.

We have every faith in you that you'll achieve something amazing in 2020 - or at least stick to your resolutions all of January anyway...
