This year so far at Garden Halls we have been running campaigns and events to help residents engage with sustainability matters. We have been working closely with Reduce the Juice where 11 residents signed up to be ambassadors where they will be working on projects throughout the year to help promote and improve sustainability within the Halls. So far, we have run campaigns related to correct usage of waste bin encouraging residents to recycle and use food waste bins.

From 15th November until 15th December residents are taking part in a zero-waste competition, against other halls, in the attempt to reduce the waste produced by the halls. We have launched a campaign to provide tips to residents on how they can do this and create a “greener harden” halls. We recently ran a sustainability themed games night to engage residents in a more fun manner. Residents learn more about sustainability issues through a quiz and had a chance to bon with fellow residents in a variety of fun and intellectual games. Over Christmas, we hope to continue the theme of reduced wastage in a Christmas market shwop shop where residents have a chance to swap items or clothing, or other belongings, that they no longer use, with an item they would like, whilst enjoying Christmas carols and hot drinks. The new year will also be filled with many more events and campaigns focusing on climate change, reducing carbon footprints, energy usage and water usage.
