A THRIVE event

The THRIVE team want you to take just 20 minutes to yourself on Tuesday lunch times.

Join us for 10 minutes of gentle stretching and movement (no athletic wear needed, but loose clothing is advised), followed by a 5 minute tea and coffee break, and ending with 5 minutes of writing either what's on your mind or with a prompt. Feel free to bring along your own notebook, but we'll have some pens and paper if you don't have your own.

No sharing, no social pressure. Just 20 minutes of tenderness and quiet self compassion.

All THRIVE events and activities are set up to align with the PERMA model of positive psychology and are designed to meet at least TWO of the model's five core elements of wellbeing: Positive Emotions; Engagement; Relationships; Meaning; and Accomplishment.

Here's how this activity meets the model:

ENGAGEMENT

Here you get a chance to engage with your body and then your mind. Taking some time to breathe and connect with your body, especially after long periods of sitting, reminds you of all the greatness your body is capable of. It'll also help still the mind, which can especially be busy with tasks and deadlines in a university environment. Following this up with light, low pressure journaling gives the rested body and mind a chance to think and reflect more clearly. It's all about bringing focus back to you and the present moment, which we often forget about.

MEANING

Writing down what's on our mind can help us recentre ourselves. Our lives are full of distractions, and we cannot often get caught up in the day-to-day, forgetting what matters to us and why we're here - whatever that means for you. This can help us find more direction in our lives, figure out what's important to us and motivate our next steps.

ACCOMPLISHMENT

You did it! You took time for yourself! It may sound like a simple task, but so few people do it. You can come away from the session knowing that you took time for yourself, that you've got a new point of view, and that you've given yourself a chance to both reflect and grow.
