Celebrating Trans Day of Visibility at the University of London

March 31st is International Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV). This day is dedicated to celebrating the contributions and achievements of transgender and non-binary people, while also raising awareness of the issues they face. It’s an occasion to reflect on the strides we’ve made towards equality, and the lengths we still have to go in ensuring each and every one of us feel safe, accepted, and valued for who we are.

Here at the University of London, we’re proud to be a diverse and inclusive community that welcomes students of all gender identities. We recognise that visibility is key for creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

We believe that everyone deserves to feel valued and respected. On TDOV, and every day, we’re committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

Why is TDOV Important?

Trans and non-binary people often experience discrimination and social exclusion. TDOV is a chance to celebrate their contributions to society and challenge the stereotypes they may encounter. By increasing visibility, we can foster greater understanding and acceptance.

What Can We All Do?

Here are some ways you can be an ally to your trans and non-binary peers:

  • Educate yourself: Learn about trans and non-binary experiences.
  • Use chosen names and pronouns: Respect how others choose to identify.
  • Challenge transphobia: Speak up against discrimination and prejudice.
  • Support LGBTQ+ societies: Get involved in your university’s LGBTQ+ community.

For further resources and support

All these are great places to start learning more about how to be an ally to the trans folk in your community, and to get support if you’re affected by any of the issues raised:

🙌  Let’s celebrate the diversity of our university community and work together to create a more inclusive future for everyone! 🙌
