Room and flat inspections will be done throughout the year to make sure you and other residents are safe and taking care of your space. Don't worry you will have plenty of notice before inspections start.
So what exactly do we inspect?
- Cleanliness: Any cleaning charges will be applied in accordance with the Common Charges List.
- The room's condition for maintenance needs: Any damage charges will be applied in accordance with the Common Charges List.
- If there are any welfare concerns: These will be escalated to the Warden for follow up.
- Check for prohibited items: These will be confiscated by the Hall Management Team and stored securely, they will be returned to you at the end of your period of occupancy. Illegal items will be disposed of and you will be notified of our actions.
Please be aware that our staff will access your flat and room on inspection days, and have the right to enter. You do not have the right to exclude them.
It's also important to make sure that your space is safe for them to enter. Throughout the year, the Hall Management Team, Warden's Team and contractors might need to conduct various tasks like maintenance or welfare duties in your room or flat. So it's essential that you keep your accommodation clean, tidy, free from trip hazards, smoke-free and hygienic.
How much notice will I get?
If we're planning to do maintenance work or room entries, we always try to give you as much notice as possible, at least 7 days. But this might not always be possible if your circumstances require more immediate action (such as discipline, welfare concerns, urgent health and safety reasons), so our staff may enter your room or flat without prior warning.
Can I refuse access?
No, you do not have the right to deny access to your room. If planned work has been scheduled, sufficient notice has been given and no objections or concerns have been raised, you must grant access to your flat or room.
In cases where external contractors are involved, and an abortive charge is incurred due to refusal of access, this charge may be passed onto you.
Now you know more about our termly room inspections, please make sure you are prepared for them. We want to keep our environment safe for everyone.
