Applications are now open for Resident Advisor roles across the University of London Intercollegiate Halls of Residence for the 2026/27 academic year.
This is a great opportunity to play an active role in hall life, support your fellow residents and help build a friendly, inclusive community where students can settle in, make friends and thrive.
What does a Resident Advisor do?
As a Resident Advisor, you’ll work closely with the Warden to support residents and help create a positive living environment in halls.
The role includes:
- Helping build community in your hall
- Supporting residents’ personal and social wellbeing
- Being the first point of contact while on duty
- Helping respond to resident concerns and emergencies
- Supporting with disciplinary matters when needed
- Organising events that help residents meet people, learn new skills and feel part of hall life
There is always one Resident Advisor on duty each night, as well as during the day at weekends and bank holidays. This means RAs play an important role in supporting residents throughout the year.
Accommodation arrangements
Successful applicants will be offered a standard single room in the hall they are appointed to, with an 80% rebate of the 2026/27 charges.
This is a compulsory live-in role, and the standard Licence Agreement for student residents will apply.
How to apply
Applications open on Friday 1 May 2026 and close on Wednesday 20 May 2026 at 23:59.
You can apply online using the application form below:
A detailed recruitment pack to support you with your application can be found here.
Please note that the application form is hosted on Microsoft Forms, so you will not be able to save a draft and return to it later. We recommend preparing your answers in a separate document first, then copying them into the form when you’re ready to submit.
You will also need to provide two hall options that you would be happy to be appointed to. Applications are for the Intercollegiate Halls as a whole, so listing a preference does not guarantee that you will be shortlisted or appointed for that hall.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Interviews
Interviews are expected to take place on Sunday 7 June 2026, between 09:00 and 21:00.
Interviews will preferably take place in person, but online interviews via Microsoft Teams can be accommodated. Each candidate will only be invited to one interview, which is expected to last around 25 to 30 minutes.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for the Resident Advisor role, you must:
- be enrolled on a full-time course of study or research within the University of London, leading to a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree, or a PGCE
- have completed at least one year of study at bachelor’s degree level, foundation degree level, or above at any recognised university by the start date of the role
- be entitled to work at least 20 hours per week in the UK
- complete a UK Disclosure and Barring Service check, or a police check from your local country
- not have received a disciplinary warning or expulsion notice for minor or major misconduct within the past five years
The Resident Advisor role is a one-year appointment. If you would like to continue as an RA in future years, you will need to apply each year again.
