All about the Senate House Library

Looking for a new place to study? Why not try Senate House Library? Located on Malet Street, it's just a short walk from campus, and offers spacious study spaces with natural light. Whether you're a silent studier or prefer working in a group, the Library has dedicated spaced to suit all preferences (including fast WiFi and plug sockets). 

Note: To use the Senate House Library, you must have access to a Library Membership.

Study Spaces

The library has 4 floors available for studying:

4th Floor

The Goldsmiths' reading room, Middlesex South and Middlesex North, all offer spacious study areas with original 1930s architecture and furniture. The area in the Catalogue Hall has flexible seating options for group studying or working solo in a relaxed space. The North reading room is a relaxed area with comfortable chairs and sofas. 

Note: Hot or cold drinks in closed containers can be brought into the library, and cold food/snacks are allowed to be eaten in the 'food and drink' area on this floor.

5th Floor

Our modern study spaces are located on floors 5, 6 and 7 within the collections. Most desks have plug sockets and individual lights. Our collections on floor 5 include:

Study@BLOOM

Don't forget, just adjacent to Eat@BLOOM is your hidden gem for open-plan working and studying. With tables, desks and booths this hidden gem might be the perfect place to get in those study hours.

Group Study Spaces

The library has 7 group study rooms with a capacity of 6-10 people. There are 4 bookable rooms located in BLOOM@Senate House with screens that can be connected wirelessly. They are available between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

The other 3 rooms, available during Library hours, are located on the 5th floor in the South Reading room with no AV facilities. 

Rooms are booked in advance with the option to choose between 1-3 hour slots with a maximum booking of 10 hours a week per person.

Accessibility Suite

The accessibility suite is a bookable room for library members with a disability or dyslexia and for members who have an assistant. The room is fully accessible by lift to the 6th floor and has 2 electronically height-adjustable tables with comfy chairs, large screens and workstations.
