Your journey so far has brought you to one of the best universities and most exciting, diverse cities in the world. None of us underestimates your achievement, and we are all so pleased to be welcoming you to Connaught Hall. We truly look forward to getting to know you. It is our sincere hope that Connaught Hall will be a safe and welcoming home for you, a friendly hub in the heart of London, and a springboard for all the wonderful things you will do this year – academically, socially, and personally.
Help us get things right for you
You can help us by letting us know if things aren’t going the way you had hoped – whether that’s because of something we could be doing better here in Hall, or because you would like some extra support facing any other difficulties that arise through the year – whether in Hall, college, personal, family, or social life. We will always listen and support you if we can, or direct you to another appropriate person if they could be of greater assistance.
We ask that you please always contact us by speaking in person, phoning reception, or by email. Please don’t use social media or instant messaging apps to let us know about something important, as there is a risk we could miss your message.
Our Hall Manager, Assistant Manager, and their teams work tirelessly to ensure our facilities are kept in good order and that you receive the best possible service, from security to maintenance, and housekeeping to catering. If there’s a problem with your room or any of the shared services and facilities in Hall, or if you have any administrative requests like a letter to prove your address, contact the Hall Management team by email at info.connaught@london.ac.uk.
The Warden and Resident Advisors (RAs) are here to support you with any concerns relating to health, wellbeing, and community living. Whilst not being counsellors or therapists, they can offer guidance, a listening ear if you feel you’d like to talk to someone, help resolve conflict with other residents, and point you in the right direction if you need additional help. If you’d like to discuss anything like this, you can approach the Warden or RAs any time you see them around the Hall or at meal times, email the Warden (adrian.clark@london.ac.uk), or book an appointment for a private chat: adrianclark.as.me (see: What to expect from a meeting with Adrian).
Adrian, the Warden, is a medical doctor who specialised in emergency medicine within the NHS for 17 years before taking his current full-time role as the University of London’s Student Health & Wellbeing Manager. Having lived at Connaught Hall since 1997, and was an RA, then Vice-Warden, and finally Warden since 2009, he has a wealth of experience in listening, supporting, and guiding. Adrian is available in Hall mostly in the early evenings and at weekends.

If you need help
University is a time of transition and adjustment. For many people, it is one of the best and happiest times of their life. But there will be periods for everyone when they might need need a bit of extra help, whether it is because of a stressful time at uni or maybe some health or personal worries. And that’s OK. Make a promise to yourself that if you are finding things difficult, you will ask for help. If you’re able, help your friends through any tough times, too.
There is always someone available to help at Connaught Hall. If you need urgent assistance, telephone or go to the reception desk and ask them to contact the person on duty.
Save the number for reception in your contacts now: 020 7664 2047.
If there is a serious emergency, remember the UK emergency services number is 999. This is the same number for police, ambulance and fire & rescue services. If you do call for emergency services help whilst in the Hall, please also then call reception so we know where to send help.
Registration with a doctor
It is essential to register with a local GP here in London, as soon as possible when you arrive. This will ensure that you can access healthcare if and when you need it. See: Register with a GP.

Residential Life: Social & community activities
The Warden and RAs will create a programme of welcome activities in the first few weeks of term to help you settle into the Hall and meet the people you will be sharing your home with this year. We hope these will be inclusive, fun, and welcoming opportunities to make new friends and build new networks of care and support. Then, we’ll continue to host occasional social, cultural, and wellbeing events throughout the academic year.
We welcome your ideas and suggestions for events and activities. We especially love to help you celebrate the cultural holidays and festivals that are important to you, and to share these with everyone in our Hall community. Speak with the Warden or an RA about this any time.
