Reading week is great for having a breather from lectures and a good chance to catch up on assignments. However, it can be nice to have a break from that too. Dedicating days to your studies can give you time in between to relax, unwind and explore the city with friends.
Relaxing at home
It's important to take at least one full day off from your studies, as it helps with balancing assignments and self-care. Taking a day off could mean catching up on sleep, going for a walk, and creating slower mornings for yourself. Small moments make it easier to reset your mind and stay productive. Simple activities such as doodling, cleaning or putting on an episode of your favourite show are great ways to break up study time and detox - it's almost like a reward!
On campus
We offer wellbeing events to help cope with stress. During reading week, we're hosting:
These sessions are low-pressure and easy to drop into between studies, which makes them ideal.
Exploring London
Sometimes, when you've spent all day studying/relaxing in your room, you need a getaway. Luckily, London is full of activities you can try alone or with your friends.
Here are a few activities you can try at no cost:
- House of MinaLima - Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts exhibition.
- Regent's Park - London Zoo.
- Royal Observatory London - Planetarium (We Are Guardians and The Sky Tonight shows).
There are some fun, cheap options too:
- Gielgud Theatre - Oliver! (£25 per ticket).
- Coffee shop/Brunch at your favourite local spot.
The city doesn't have to be the whole plan; escaping to a quieter place can be nicer. Check out some places to escape to in London.
Reading week can feel overwhelming when you feel like you need to get everything done in 7 days, but ask yourself, what do you need? Rest, inspiration, socialisation?
